Before you enroll
Questions from parents.
Which grades can my student enter?
The school takes applicants for grades 9 and 10, and for grade 11 through a postgraduate year.
Are test scores required?
Standardized tests are optional. Students who choose not to submit scores will not be penalized, and the school does not admit or deny a student based only on testing. Families must submit the Test Optional Form in the admissions portal. An application is not complete until it is submitted.
Is an interview required?
Interviews are not required but are strongly encouraged.
What does it cost?
$77,340 for 2026-27 (boarding) $59,460 for 2026-27 (day) Other 2026-27 fees: a Technology Fee of $1,005, a Health Center Fee of $665 for boarding students and $320 for day students, and an International Student Fee of $1,140 for students who need a Form I-20. Tuition refund insurance is optional.
Does Loomis Chaffee offer financial aid?
The school says it is committed to enrolling the most outstanding applicants regardless of their ability to pay. For 2026-27 the school awarded $14.2 million in financial aid to 33 percent of students. Grants range from $1,000 up to the full cost of tuition, and the average grant covers 80 percent of tuition. The school notes that financial aid is extremely limited at this time.
How does financial need fit into admission?
In most cases the school only admits students it can fund through its financial aid budget. Each year a small number of admitted students go on a financial aid waiting list, and a second group is denied admission because aid cannot be provided.
Is there transportation for day students?
Loomis does not provide daily transportation to or from school for day students. The online school directory helps families find carpools nearby.
